ATTITUDE OF SERVICE

ATTITUDE OF SERVICE
March 14, 2009

When reading in one of Dr. Joshua David Stone's books recently, found words to add to my collection of quotes: "Being of service is an attitude." I realize others have made the same point, but I'll give him the credit for this one. (FYI: Dr. Stone has authored Soul Psychology and several books on ascension.) What these words mean is that no matter what the activity, one can make it service with one's attitude toward it, one's intent, one's feelings about it, etc. What people usually think of when discussing service is service to others (STO), selfless service. However, one can be serving one's self (service to self, STS), selfish service.

We would suggest that there are benefits for one's self when serving others. For example, the other day we discovered a man emptying abandoned storage units--discarding it in the facility's big dumpster, which is emptied by an automatic garbage disposal truck once a week. He placed what wouldn't fit near the dumpster, but not so near as to obstruct the garbage truck.

Went to work immediately in an attempt to salvage as many of the lighter-weight items as possible. Worked for several hours as the man brought out more and more things--including large appliances and furniture. Filled some small containers with goodies and ten or more 30-gallon garbage bags with clothes (including some unworn with tags on and some name brand). Made two trips to a charity several miles away that day and one trip the next day. Was very tired and bruised and scratched when I called it quits that first day, but felt so much joy. Body was weary, but spirit was soaring. This is an example of how service to others can benefit one's self. I really needed that experience. Too bad so many useful items went to the garbage dump. As usual, I have to keep reminding that I can't save the world, that the best I can do is the best I can do. While salvaging that day, couldn't help thinking that if I had a large conversion van (that I've wanted for about twenty years now), I would have been able to save so much more. Even a big pickup truck would have been better than my four-door sedan. I am grateful for the current Lightmobile, but it limits me in several ways--including how many useful items I can haul and give to the needy.

The "traveling angel" wanted the van to live out of and to keep gifts for the needy--used coats and blankets, food and beverages, toiletries, and miscellaneous items received free or purchased at low cost. (And I make a point where I see a need, especially of a homeless or near-homeless person, to try to fill it--what I call my "Jesus Work"). Purchased a good blanket for only $2.00 at a yard sale (of miscellaneous items) today. As I drove away, I thought of the van I almost took possession of last year, how much easier my life would be with a big conversion van, and, to my surprise, burst into tears. Serenity prayer, Angel-Light. Serenity prayer. It goes: "God give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." One reason I grieve for the van is that I've given up after several "almosts" over twenty years and one "lemon" that I drove less than a month. I have no hope, and if I grieve from time to time, like today, that's okay.

PRAYER FOR OTHERS & PRAYER FOR SELF

PRAYER FOR OTHERS & PRAYER FOR SELF
March 14, 2009

In the 1990s, I came across a piece titled "Prayer for Others." I changed a couple of words and have been praying this prayer ever since: [Person's name], may your life be in harmony with your Divine purpose. May your life be in harmony with Divine will for you. May you so live that all who meet you are uplifted, that all who bless you are blessed, and all who give to you and serve you receive the greatest satisfaction. If any should attempt to harm you, may they contact the light within you and be healed. And so it is.

I revised the prayer more for my own self: I Am Angel-Light. I Am That I Am. I open my heart to be a center of love and light. I open my being to be a channel of love and light. May my life be in harmony with my Divine purpose. May my life be in harmony with Divine will for me. May I so live that all who meet me are uplifted, that all who bless me are blessed, and that all who give to me and serve me receive the greatest satisfaction. If any should attempt to harm me, may they contact the light within me and be healed. And so it is.

During awakening this morning, it came to me to share this prayer (which is sometimes called The Prayer Of Nonattachment) in a blog.

SOUL PURPOSE & GOALS

SOUL PURPOSE & GOALS
March 10, 2009

This year more people are asking the Angel-Light team for information about their soul’s purpose/life plan. I have been reluctant to provide input because I feel it is something that is deeply personal and wouldn’t want to misinterpret or communicate incorrect information. However, recently I’ve been reconsidering and developing a master list to go by when asking the Angel-Light team to provide such information. I also have an ongoing project of going through files and papers in my storage unit to find things not on my computer drives that I want to be there. In so doing, I found helpful information provided by Dick Sutphen (a long-time metaphysical researcher and author) that I’m incorporating into my list/outline. Plan to have it ready for use soon.

Meanwhile, using just Sutphen’s information, I asked my sources about my life purpose and goal (even though I pretty much knew already). Out of seven paths/directions on his list, mine is service (not news to me). He also lists seven soul goals, and I saw two or three possibilities on the list for me personally. He acknowledges that some people have primary and secondary and sometimes tertiary goals. Now this is where I couldn’t know for sure without asking my sources. When given my primary goal is to attain knowledge, I resonated with that Information. Sutphen suggests some areas one might want to gain knowledge of, I was given my goal was to learn about sacrifice. Sacrifice? Now that’s a familiar word! Many times over the years (and just this week), I’ve been given, “We appreciate the sacrifices you’ve made.” Can’t say I’m pleased about all the sacrifices! Haven’t I learned enough about sacrifice already?

Late last year a gal who had been in the military in the Middle East asked me about her purpose and goals, so I decided to use Sutphen’s list to see if any information would be provided for her. I don’t know why I was surprised that her life path/purpose is military (which includes soldiers, police, law enforcement of all types). Her primary goal (to provide support) is right in line with that purpose. Very interesting. I’m now convinced we can be of assistance to people by providing information about purpose and goals.

The Angel-Light team will soon respond to questions about soul purpose/path and soul goals.
