11-11-11 and Apophenia

I have been asked to share my thoughts on 11-11-11 with a gal who is collecting input from several people to share on her Internet radio program. In metaphysical circles, Solara An-Ra seems to be the first person to begin writing and speaking about a Divine doorway or portal (aka multidimensional portal) opening on or about this date—beginning decades ago. Others write and speak about a separation of worlds beginning and the ascension of those who are prepared and many lightworkers returning home rather than ascend with the planet to 5D. Stories vary about the significance of 11-11-11 and what will happen or begin to happen on or after that date. This year I’ve been receiving visions and information about a separation of worlds. In recent months, I’ve been receiving information about “Ascension,” which I wrote about on October 22, 2011 in a piece titled, “Ascension Unfolding.” However, I’ve received absolutely no information specifically about 11-11-11. So what does one believe?

Psychologists have weighed in on the phenomenon of 11-11-11, saying that obsessions with dates and numbers is a classic case of "apophenia" which is the human tendency to find meaning or patterns in randomly occurring data. This condition feeds on itself because the more conscious you are of something--such as repeating 11s--the more often you'll notice it in the world around you and, thus, the more sure you'll become that the pattern is real. Many people in metaphysically-oriented online forums have said they didn't notice how many 11s appeared to them until hearing about the phenomenon from someone else. This is classic apophenia: When they found out about the phenomenon, they subconsciously started keeping track.

I tend to agree with Ellie Crystal, a psychic, teacher, author, researcher, lecturer, and broadcaster (www.crystalinks.com) whose work I respect, who says: “November 11 seems to be a keynote date for many people--11/11/11. To me it's just another day. A portal will not open. Aliens will not return to help, harm, or guide humanity. It's just about awakening. If you feel guided to be with people of like mind, go for it and have fun, but don't get into some group mind thing where you believe you can change the grids and save the planet. Reality is about truth. It's just a simulation for experience.”

I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to remain in witness mode, unattached, and not be caught up in predictions of events—especially regarding specific dates. Since I first became aware of and involved in the Dallas-Ft. Worth wholistic (including metaphysical) community over 25 years ago, there have been plenty of predictions of “cosmic events” (even some that seemed to have a “scientific” basis or historical backup) that never occurred and/or happened personally rather than collectively. My inner wisdom has been to witness and not believe—or disbelieve for that matter. This has served me well over the years.
