Service is a subject near and dear to my
heart and a top priority. There are various types of service, including
providing for the safety and survival needs of others (food, clothing, funds,
etc.), and just doing things to make others happy—such as giving them something
of yours they have admired. The list is a long one. Below are a few quotes
about service I gathered today after being inspired by someone’s post on
Facebook.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “My call to the
ministry was not a miraculous or supernatural something. On the contrary it was
an inner urge calling me to serve humanity.”
Mahatma Gandhi: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
Mahatma Gandhi: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
Thich Nhat Hanh: “We talk about social service, service to the
people, service to humanity, service to others who are far away, helping to
bring peace to the world - but often we forget that it is the very people
around us that we must live for first of all. If you cannot serve your wife or
husband or child or parent - how are you going to serve society? If you cannot
make your own child happy, how do you expect to be able to make anyone else
happy? If all our friends in the peace movement or of service communities of
any kind do not love and help each other, whom can we love and help?”
Steve Farrell: “If life is not all about your individual life, and it is not, what are you on Earth for then? Beloveds, you are here to serve.”
Steve Farrell: “If life is not all about your individual life, and it is not, what are you on Earth for then? Beloveds, you are here to serve.”
Marianne Williamson: “As long as there are ways we can serve, then we have a
job to do.”
Rabindranath Tagore: "I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I woke and saw that life was
service. I acted and behold, service was joy."
Mollie Marti: “The more you become aware of and respond to the needs of others, the richer your own life becomes.”
Albert Schweitzer: "I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve."
Harley King: “Service to others in their time of need is a privilege and an honor.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Everybody can be great...because anybody can
serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make
your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A
soul generated by love.”
Gordon Hinckley: “One of the great ironies of
life is this: He or she who serves almost always benefits more than he or she
who is served.”
Mother Teresa: “The fruit of service is peace.”
Mother Teresa: “The fruit of service is peace.”
Martin Luther: “God does not need our good works,
but our neighbor does.”
Wayne Dyer: “When you are able to shift your
inner awareness to how you can serve others, and when you make this the central
focus of your life, you will then be in a position to know true miracles in
your progress toward prosperity.”
Booker T. Washington: “Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.”
John Ortberg: “Love grows when people serve.”
Marian Wright Edelman: “Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life, and not something you do in your spare time.”
Booker T. Washington: “Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.”
John Ortberg: “Love grows when people serve.”
Marian Wright Edelman: “Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life, and not something you do in your spare time.”
Thomas Monson: ““Perhaps when we face our
maker, we will not be asked, how many positions did you hold, but rather, how
many people did you help?”
Mahatma Gandhi: “Service which is rendered without joy helps neither the servant nor the served. But all other pleasures and possessions pale into nothingness before service which is rendered in a spirit of joy.”
