I’ve recently finished a book that was difficult to put down.  Dr. Linda Backman's "Souls on Earth: Exploring Interplanetary Past Lives" (2018) was recommended to members of my favorite Facebook group.  After reading a little about it on the Internet, I didn’t just put it on my wish list as I usually do with recommended books, but ordered it immediately.

Dr. Backman has been a practicing psychology for forty or so years and has created two books prior to “Souls on Earth” that I discovered are also quite popular.  She was a co-founder, with Dr. Michael Newton, of the Society for Spiritual Regression.  You may want to check out her web site: www.RavenHeartCenter.Com.

“Souls on Earth” has an Introduction and ten chapters titled as follows:  Earth-Based Souls and Interplanetary Souls: The Differences; Life Purpose of Interplanetary Souls; Earth Incarnation Challenges for Interplanetary Souls; Mislabeling and Misunderstanding Interplanetary Souls; Spirit Guides, Senior Elders, and the Interplanetary Council; Soul Archetypes and Past Lives of Interplanetary Souls; Interplanetary Soul Family Relationships; Parenting and Interplanetary Soul; Survival Guide for Interplanetary Souls on Earth; Essential Action to Evolve Humanity.  There is also a helpful Glossary. The term “Interplanetary Souls” is abbreviated as “IPs,” and “Earth-Based Souls” is abbreviated as “EBs.”

Yes, absolutely thought provoking!  And, as I mentioned above, I had difficulty putting it down. I recommended this book to a friend via email and brought up how “wonderfully written” it is. Dr. Backman doesn’t present every sound and word uttered and pause of people under hypnosis, but makes the information an easy read. How refreshing!  When she is quoting a client, she sets that off in paragraphs indented on both sides.  She also reports other information from the sessions in her own words/style.  I also appreciate the excellent punctuation throughout.  I didn’t have to back up and read sentences again to understand them.   

I’ll tease you with some words from the text:  “I’m a walk-in.”  “I’ve never been a child on earth.” “When we come into a body, the body has its own energy. Sometimes it is difficult to assimilate.”  “To clarify the understanding of the third, fourth, and fifth dimensions, and so forth, think of the words dimension, density, and frequency as synonyms.”  “We are all energy that exists in more than one location simultaneously. We are embodied souls on Earth at the same time that we are higher selves at our soul’s home locale. Plus, as a soul, we may have a split incarnation somewhere on Earth or interplanetary.”  “Our higher self is the most elevated frequency of our soul energy that is not expressed on Earth.”  “When you’ve attained a soul evolution level of a minimum of seven on a ten-point scale, it is automatic that you embody to be of service to humanity, agreeing to contribute to our culture’s evolution.”  “When we are consciously aware of, and bond with, all aspects of our soul, no matter on Earth, interplanetary, or the higher self, then we increase our influence on broad-based evolution.”  “As we merge all aspects of our soul, the expansive effect on Earth life is manifest.”  “Earth existence can be enormously lonely for an IP soul.”

There are a lot of areas and subjects touched upon in “Souls on Earth.”  For example, the New Earth is discussed, as is the Inner Earth. Non-human life forms of some souls are described. Descriptions of past lives on and off Planet Earth make for interesting reading, especially as to how they are impacting the soul’s evolution/growth. I have read a dozen or so books on soul dynamics and life between lives, and thought my learning on the subject of souls was sufficient, but this book goes above and beyond all the others.

This review is long, but I’m still left with a sense that I haven’t written enough about it. I’m looking forward to reading it again, which I intend to do very soon.

The descriptions of warm, loving homegoing in "Souls on Earth" make me (a soul with an aging human body in its 70s) even more eager to go to home base (which is not the same for all souls) where I am very loved.  I want to feel my energy embracing and merging with the energy of my soul family (which is not the same as my human family). .

It is commonly thought that the age of a soul is about the number of lives the soul has lived in human form in this current cycle of humanity on this planetary sphere, at this plane of existence, but that is not the case—at least not directly. 

Let’s back up, there are human animal bodies, and there are souls being hosted by the bodies. Simply put (and there is much more than what we’ll describe here), each soul is part of an oversoul group, with an oversoul who sends souls (extensions of itself) to participate in this earthly existence.  Why?  To experience, to evolve, to grow.  While this plane of existence is a school, of sorts, it is also used as a laboratory.  That’s all we’re going to include about that, for this piece is about soul age. Soul age is probably a misnomer, and better terms might be soul evolvement and soul evolution. But soul age is commonly used, and that’s our chosen title. 

Information about soul age is described in the research of Dr. Michael Newton, which is included in his books, the first two being “Journey of Souls” (1994) and “Destiny of Souls” (2000).  In his case studies, where experiencers undergo hypnosis to explore, soul age is discerned by the color(s) of the energy of the light being (which is how souls appear when not embodied as human).  There are chapters titled “The Beginner Soul” and “The Intermediate Soul” and “The Advanced Soul” in the “Journey of Souls” book. Very interesting information gathered from numerous clients of Dr. Newton (and he had sessions with thousands of individuals).  Dr. Newton is not putting out that some souls are “better than” others, but that souls are at different stages of development (to put it simply).

There are numerous sources of information about soul age.  Tom T. Moore (www.thegentlewaybook.com) has published several books of information provided by consciousness units (aspects) of his multidimensional  soul self and other beings. They divide the designated ages of souls into quadrants.

The Michael teachings, described and presented by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, and then others, were first published in book form in 1979 as “Messages from Michael.” The second book is “More Messages from Michael” (1986), and the third is “Michael’s People” (1988). Michael is described as a group soul, a collective consciousness of over 1,000 essences/consciousness units who have experienced lives as humans.  The teachings divide each soul level (Infant, Baby, Young, Mature, Old) into seven sub-levels. According to the teachings, “there are two other levels of soul consciousness which may take human bodies, but are vastly beyond the sometimes all-too-human levels of Infant to Old just described. They are the Transcendental Soul and the Infinite Soul." Indeed, on some of the "overleaf charts" used by various Michael consultants/readers in sessions, these two designations are included.

I had one of the Michael [soul] readings (from Carol Heideman) in November 1990. Carol considered the Michael system to be “more than just an interesting look into what lies beyond the world around us,” and “a very practical method to understand ourselves and the people close to us.”  The reader may want to do some internet research and find the Overleaf Chart to see all the categories (no designation in any category to imply one person is better than another) included in the soul readings and descriptions of each.  (It’s not just about soul age.)  My Soul Age was “Old,” at the sixth level, which means I had yet one more level to complete before the “Transcendental” level.  (I’ve been blessed to know and interact with three Transcendental souls this lifetime.)  

There are many other sources of information about soul age on the internet.

Let us not forget that we souls are being hosted by human body-mind units on this planet. Only a portion of our soul downloads/extends into a human form, and a soul can be expressing through more than one human body at a time (in linear time).  We descend into this plane of existence, unite with the physical forms (usually in utero or shortly thereafter, and we won’t discuss exceptions in this piece) and get on with the business of living here. It is not always easy to live according to our designated plans.  And, sometimes we forget our assignments while enjoying living as human and/or enduring the trials and tribulations of this plane of existence.  (Actually, those trials and tribulations can be part of our plans.) A person can be living partly by soul will and partially by body will during any period of time.  We provided that information as a percentage in the Soul-Personality Analysis we provided to seekers over a number of years (from the Soul plane of existence, referred to as 5D by many facilitators and researchers, where the Soul age information is also available).

Things are not always what they seem.

I’m currently reading “Your Soul’s Plan: Discovering the Real Meaning of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born (Robert Schwartz, 2007, 2009).  There is an Introduction, eight chapters, an Epilogue and two Appendices. The chapters are named Pre-birth Planning; Physical Illness (with two case studies); Parenting Handicapped Children (one case study); Deafness and Blindness (two case studies); Drug Addiction and Alcoholism (two case studies; Death of a Loved One (one case study); Accidents (two case studies); Conclusion.

In Chapter 2, the author is surprised to discover that one of the people subject to research is channeling her Soul.  Here are some excerpts in summary.

“In part I chose to speak with Doris because she is clairaudient; I hoped she would obtain information about her own pre-birth plan. What I never anticipated was the startling way in which she would use her psychic ability during our conversation. I had expected Doris to relay the words she was hearing from nonphysical beings, most likely her spirit guides. I was taken aback when she immediately entered a trance and began to channel. I was even more surprised when I learned the identity of the being who was speaking.  As we began, I felt an intense surge in energy in Doris’s voice. With the first words, the pattern of speech changed dramatically.”

The author goes on to present some of the information provided by the entity being channeled. He reached a point that he wanted to find out who was speaking through Doris. He asked, “You’ve used the word “we” several times. Who is we?” The response was:  “We are an oversoul. We encompass all personalities. The personalities do not die. They are a part of the great chorus.  We leaf through them together with our guides as we plan the life as a painting in three dimensions, a collage.” 

The author reports: “I understood that ‘oversoul’ was being used as a synonym for soul. I was shocked by this announcement; never had I imagined that Doris would channel her soul.  Doris was, therefore, providing an extraordinary opportunity to talk directly with a soul about the plan for an incarnation.” 

Regular readers of our (the Angel-Light Team/Collective) words are aware the word “we” is used often, although sometimes we intentionally change “we” to “I” to facilitate the easier understanding of what we are trying to convey. Our main group is comprised of units of consciousness of the same Oversoul. Units of consciousness of other Oversouls are invited to assist in our work as the need arises.

I tell people:  No, I’m NOT channeling a spirit/entity. I’m channeling higher vibrational aspects of my multidimensional soul self. Many people who channel are doing the same.
