During the first half of the year, I read one fiction book, Dan Brown's Angels & Demons (New York: Simon & Shuster, 2000). It was hard because of the violence, but I stuck with it and distanced myself from the unpleasantness. All fiction is based on truth, and this book is no exception. Such was also the case with his book, The DaVinci Code, which was made into a movie and was very controversial.

I also read the following nonfiction books:

Last Rights: Rescuing the End of Life from the Medical System, Stephen P. Kiernan (New York: St. Martin's Press, 2006).

Reliance on the Light, Diane Stein (California: The Crossing Press, 2001).

Dreams from my Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance, Barrack Obama [presidential candidate] (New York: Random House, 1995, 2004).

Our Haunted Lives: True Life Ghost Encounters, Jeff Belanger (New Jersey: New Age Books, 2006).

Reading Judas, Karen L. King & Elaine Pagels (New York: Penquin Group, 2007).

Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting: The Astonishing Power of Feelings, Lynn Grabhorn (Virginia: Hampton Roads, 2000). After this book being so well received, Lynn wrote another book before her life's end which was not well received. You see, after this book of changing her life using "the law of attraction," etc., she began learning through experience that there are other variables--such as dark beings of evil intent who are delighted to demonstrate that "the law of attraction" isn't an immutable law. That follow-up book is Dear God, What's Happening To Us?. If I ever come across it, I will read it completely; I already am sharing some processes from the book.

Escape on the Pearl: The Heroic Bid for Freedom on the Underground Railroad, Mary Kay Ricks (New York: HarperCollins, 2007).

Change Or Die: The Three Keys to Change at Work and in Life, Alan Deutschman (New York: HarperCollins, 2007).

The Jesus Family Tomb, Simcha Jacobovich & Charles Pellegrino (California: HarperCollins, 2007). FYI: This isn't the tomb of the family of Jesus.

Spiritual Connections, Sylvia Brown (California: Hay House, 2007).

Blame It On the Rain: How the Weather Changed History, Laura Lee (New York: Harper, 2006).

The Secret, Rhonda Byrne (New York: Atria Books, 2006). Who in the wholistic community isn't familiar with this book--and the movie? I had no interest in reading the book, because my reality (and that of Lynn Grabhorn and many others) is that The Secret, which has been developing a cult-like following (just as did The Course in Miracles), is claiming to reveal the whole truth but is not doing so. However, I just happened to see it in the new books section of my main library and decided to read it. It was a simple, easy read, for which I am grateful! Obviously, there are truths in this book, but red flags came up for me several times.
