Waiting outside a library for the doors to open this morning, there was a 14-month-old boy with his caregiver and another woman. I engaged the women in friendly conversation about the child because I sensed he was not being given as much support as a child of that age deserves.
He tugged to get free from his caregiver's hand, which was around his lower arm. When she finally let him go and said, "Okay, go on," he walked over to me, about 8' away, and reached up his arms. Nothing to do but to let my heavy purse/tote and briefcase drop to the floor and pick him up! Held him quite a while as he gazed with full attention into my eyes. Told him sincerely, "I love you," told him "God loves you," told him he is very loving, and told him to remember who he is and not to forget who he is. The last words to him were "Don't forget." After he received his message, he looked over and gently leaned toward his caregiver, who was still about 8' away, and I walked over and put him down. We were complete. Many times young children notice and recognize the angel souls being hosted by this human body-mind unit. I've had it happen many times over the years. It's a joy to interact with these little blessings!
