PRAYERS:
SELFISH & UNSELFISH

Recently, it seems I’ve seen more people requesting specific prayers
for other people on Facebook than usual—specifics like a new job, a new car,
the perfect house, and even (gasp) specifics for the other person that pertain
to the person requesting the prayers (such as, the daughter will stay in Texas close
to her family and not take the job she has been offered in Florida). I’ve been meaning to write about this for
several days, and yet another selfish prayer request I just saw led me to do it
immediately. What amazes me is the
number of people that post in response to the prayer request that they will do
so or that they have just done so. What
makes these people think they know what is best for the targeted person for
heaven’s sake? These types of prayers cross the thin line between intercessory
prayers and imprecatory prayers. If you don’t know the difference and want to,
put the two terms in the search blank on the left side of the home page of the ♥Angel-Light
Beamer♥ and press
enter. More than one article will be
retrieved for your reading.
Now one can comply with selfish prayer requests in the Christian
way--in the name of Jesus or in the name of Christ and finish with, “Nevertheless,
not my will but Thy will be done.” But
why even pray selfishly to begin with? As
I’ve written several times heretofore, asking for another person’s “wellbeing”
is a good word to use rather than go into specifics that might go against the
Soul’s plan or Divine will for the life. Why would I or anyone else assume to
know what is best for the wellbeing of another person? A high-level goal for
every awake and aware soul is to live a life that is aligned with, or at least
compatible with the plan made with Oversoul and Soul group before embodying—to live
as Higher Self/Soul rather than Lower Self/Ego.
Here’s a suggestion: “I Am [your name]. Dear Divine, I request a
most benevolent outcome for the wellbeing of [name of person], and may [name of
person]’s life be compatible [or aligned] with Divine will and Soul’s will for [name of
person]. Thank you.” One can add “in the name of Christ” after “Dear
Divine,” or even revise this short prayer in other minor ways.
Here’s a longer prayer that some readers might prefer from time to
time. “May the life of [name of person] be
in harmony with Divine will and in alignment with the Soul purpose. May [name
of person] so live that all who meet [name of person] will be uplifted, that
all who bless [name of person] will be blessed, and that all who give to [name
of person] and assist [name of person] receive the greatest satisfaction. If any should attempt to harm [name of
person], may they contact the Light within [name of person] and be healed. Thank you.”
We recognize that there will be occasions when prayers will come
out as selfish because of extreme circumstances and grief. However, most times, prayers can be
unselfish.
