This afternoon (after a round of giving—more about that
later), a quote came to mind, “When you most need to receive is when you most
need to give.” At least, I thought it
was a quote from many years ago. So, I
decided to do a google search to find the source of that quote. Found nothing. However, I liked the selection
of “giving and receiving quotes” I found at https:// www . goodreads . com/quotes/
tag/giving-and-receiving and decided to share some of them with readers of the ♥Angel-Light Beamer♥. More quotes and information
on the quotes below can be found at the link.
Rasheed Ogunlaru: “A rich life is lived from a giving heart
not a selfish mind.”
Jennifer White: “If you don't receive enough, have a look if
you give enough.”
Henri J.M. Nouwen: “We often live as if our happiness
depended on having. But I don't know anyone who is really happy because of what
he or she has. True joy, happiness, and inner peace come from the giving of
ourselves to others. A happy life is a life for others. That truth, however, is
usually discovered when we are confronted with our brokenness.”
Charbel Tadros: “Humans are givers by nature; that's why
it's easier to do something for another than for oneself. Try it, you'll see
what I mean.”
Clyde Lee Dennis: “When you give more than anyone could
possibly expect you get more than you ever expected.”
Debasish Mridha: “Just like you can’t reap a harvest without
planting seeds, so you can’t get without giving.”
Donald Pillai: “Each of us will be remembered, either by
those close to us or by those who have benefited from the greater good which we
have done.”
Paul Silway: “Some think that God rains money from heaven.
These people can never be blessed because they themselves have shut their door
towards prosperity by not giving and telling others not to give.”
Debasish Mridha: “Life is a balance between giving and
receiving. The more you give, the more abundance will fill your life with joy.”
Amit Ray: “If you want to ask one question, ask yourself,
what are you giving to the universe and only that will be returned.”
Katherine Center: “[…]
I was figuring out how doing something for other people could, in fact, be
doing something for yourself. Amazing.”
Dragos Bratasanu: “The more you share unconditionally what
others most need, the more you will receive what you most want.”
Colleen Mariotti: “Give without expectation and receive with
reckless abandon.”
Dragos Bratasanu: “The only way to heal is to help others
heal, and the only way to find love and keep love in our lives is to give it to
others.”
Debasish Mridha: “Just like you can’t reap a harvest without
planting seeds, so you can’t get without giving.”
I want to add one of my favorites from Abigail Van Buren
(Dear Abby): “If you’re not giving, you’re
not living.”
And, now, more about my round of giving this afternoon. This month, I have been able to replace most
of the coil-type, soft light, long-lasting bulbs in the lamps and fixtures in
my apartment with daylight, long-lasting, standard-shape bulbs. After replacing some more today, I found
myself with a big collection of unused and partially used bulbs to give away. I took a couple new boxes (eight bulbs) to a
resident who is often in need of this and that. Yes, she wanted the bulbs! She also asked me for another household item
she had used up, and I said I could provide that and asked her if there was
anything else she needed. She hesitated
and took a deep breath, during which I sympathized with her about having a long
list of needs and wants my own self. She asked for another item, and I went to
fetch both requests and delivered them to her. When I returned, she said she’d
be needing some quarters to do laundry soon, but not in a direct request manner.
I’ve given her lots of quarters over the years, and she knows I’ll give her
what I can when she asks. Sometimes it’s not all she needs, but I keep enough
to help out a little at least.
Then I decided to take another new box of bulbs to the
community laundry room with a note indicating they were free to residents.
However, on my way, I came across another resident and decided to offer that
box to her. She was delighted because she had just given her last light bulb to
another resident who asked her for one.
How wonderful! So, then I retrieved
and gave her all the bulbs I had to give away—about 15 new and partially used. She
was thrilled! How wonderful! The next
time a really tall person comes to my apartment, maybe he or she will use my
two-step stool to remove the light fixture cover in the living room and replace
the three old-style bulbs. I’ll have so
much more light! Bright light!
“When you most need to receive is when you most need to
give.” Giving to receive wasn’t on my mind when I
gave things away this afternoon, but that quote did come to mind after I had
finished. (Higher Self input maybe?) Isn’t
giving fun?!
