ARE YOUR (MAGIC) WAND

The idea of writing on this subject occurred to me today when I (yet
again) saw posts of several people on Facebook that were negative and obviously
accompanied with strong feeling when it would have been just as easy to get the
message across in another way. Here are some sample comments I see regularly on
Facebook: “That makes me so mad.” “I am
beyond angry.” “I’m so sick.” “I have
the flu.” I’ll spare the reader others. Could
have titled this piece “Watch Your Words” and even considered “Pay Attention to
Your Words.”
Every so often, I decide to write on the subject of this article
(again) and most times don’t follow through. Today is a follow-through
day! As I was wondering about a possible
title and unable to settle on anything, “your words are your wand” came into my
mind. Got it! Reminded me of Florence Scovel Shinn’s 1925
book “Your Word Is Your Wand.” That book
is in my collection--together with “The Game of Life & How to Play It” (1925)
and “The Secret Door to Success” (1940) and “The Power of the Spoken Word”
(1945)—all four books in one volume, published in 1988 (43 years after the last
individual book). Florence Scovel Shinn was a Christian woman who quoted the
words of Jesus Christ in her books, as well as words of different books of The Holy
Bible. However, the reader doesn’t have to be a Christian to appreciate her
writings.
From the first section of “Your Word Is Your Wand”: Man’s word is his wand filled with magic and
power! […] So man has power to change an unhappy condition by waving over it
the wand of his word. In the place of sorrow appears joy, in the place of
sickness appears health, in the place of lack appears plenty. […] The imaging
faculty is the creative faculty, and it is important to choose words which
bring a flash of the fulfillment of the demand.
Never force a picture by visualizing; let the Divine Idea flash into
your conscious mind; then the student is working according to the Divine
Design. […] There is no Truth in lack or limitation. […] Fear, doubt, anxiety,
anger, resentment pull down the cells of the body, shock the nervous system,
and are the causes of disease and disaster. Happiness and health must be earned
by absolute control of the emotional nature. […] Every man has the power to
lift the fog in his life. It may be a fog of lack of money, love, happiness, or
health.
Just as one’s words can change conditions for the better in one’s
life, they can also create unwanted experiences and situations. Many people have written about the power of
the spoken word in modern times, but maybe someone needs the reminder of this
piece.
First, take responsibility for your own feelings. Nobody can make
you feel any way. How you feel is your choice.
It’s not what others say or don’t say, not what others do or don’t
do. It’s how you choose to feel about it
or react to it. Better not to react at
all, but to act from your point of power if you choose to act. It’s not to stifle your emotions (which can
harm the physical body eventually) but to monitor your emotions. Act from your higher feeling body; don’t
react from your lower emotional body. Get into seeing your world from a higher
perspective.
Watch those words! Be extra
careful what you put after “I am,” and be very careful what words you put after
“I’m.” “I am” and “I’m” claim whatever words
you put after them for you. I’m not saying you should ignore your body’s condition
(for example), but there are better ways to communicate, such as “The doctor said
my body has the flu” or, “the tummy has been complaining about something.”
Another book in my collection is Paul Selig’s “I Am The Word: A
Guide to the Consciousness of Man’s Self in a Transitioning Time” (2010), with
eleven chapters and an epilogue—all created in 2009. Here’s a personal affirmation from the book: “I
am now choosing to think only those thoughts [words] which will bring me peace
and will align me to a higher consciousness. I am doing this easily and through
my own intention to know myself as Word. Word I am Word through this intention.
Word I am Word.” (There’s that word “word”
again.)
If you catch yourself creating negative thoughts or statements, add
the word “neutralize” and/or “cancel.”
Some like to add “cancel, negate, void.”
It’s one thing to share information about circumstances and
conditions of this world that are negative (and this plane of existence is
polarized by its nature). It’s quite another to create and attract negativity
with your emotional words. Get in the habit of using words designed to
transmute and transform negative words into neutral or positive words. With time, with practice, you can rise above and
abide in witness mode much of the time. You
can see a situation you’re not pleased about and act to address the issue or
solve the problem without getting all entangled and emotionally engaged with
it.
Practice, practice, practice.
