SERVICE-TO-SELF OR SERVICE-TO-OTHERS?

Recently I read the notes a man made about one of his
conversations with one of the extraterrestrials involved with humanity. The ET corrected him more than once when he called
some ETs negative and said the label “selfish” is preferred and
explained why, and discussed
orientations of those of us living as 3D earth humans—how some are focused on
acquiring money and merchandise and the accoutrements of success and give
little to no thought of making the world better for humanity at large. The ETs
responses to the man’s questions were inspirational.
The song, “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand” came to mind when
I was reading. Found it on YouTube sung
by Diana Ross at a peace conference and added it to one of my play lists. The
chorus goes: “Reach out and touch somebody's hand. Make this world a better place if you can. Reach
out and touch somebody's hand. Make this world a better place if you can.” Many people (including myself) who are
familiar with and can sing the chorus aren’t as familiar with the other
words: “Take a little time out of your
busy day to give encouragement to someone who's lost the way. Or would I be
talking to a stone If I asked you to share a problem that's not your own? We can change things if we start giving. If
you see an old friend on the street and he's down remember his shoes could fit
your feet. Try a little kindness, you'll see it's something that comes very
naturally. We can change things if we start giving.”
I’ve been familiar with the adjectives “service-to-self” and “service
to others” for a few years now. Being of
service to others doesn’t mean one neglects one’s self. It just means being
open for opportunities to assist others and looking for ways to assist
others. Service to others is my focus
95% of the time. It’s why I’m living. But you can think of it as a tithe of
your time if you wish.
