Response: From my perspective (and it is okay if our perspectives are different), I have NO gifts, and "I of myself can do nothing," but it is Divine within who "does the works." I am just a humble (seek to be humble, anyway) Divine instrument. On the other hand, I Am the Soul and living mostly as Divine Soul, so there are abilities and (I'm given) "virtues" that are part of my repertoire. One can approach the "gifts" in several ways. One is to ask Divine to be used as a Divine Instrument in service to humanity, and to ask to be purified so as to be suitable for such service. One prayer I have is: "Oh, Divine, make me your healing instrument. Let my entire being be filled with compassion for those who are suffering." This is how I began in the 1980s when I also spent a lot of time in prayer and meditation.
Also, one can tap into the knowledge gained in experiences in other lives and bring that information into the present life. The key is not to open a Pandora's box in so doing and bring forth a lot of stuff that you don't want in this life. For example, one might have lived a life as a herbalist, etc. but also persecuted and rejected in that life. Because you want to compose and play music, especially the harp, I can research to discover the lives in which you have been engaged in these activities.
I can guarantee you that if one has a sincere desire to serve (assist others) and spends time in prayer (asking) and meditation (listening) and acting upon guidance received (to give up the consumption of meat, in my case), one day the doors will start to open and one will find one's self doing things and saying things that benefit others, and one discovers one's physical presence can be healing and therapeutic for others. If one's motive is self-glorification, then not a lot is going to happen. (An aside: After some time as a spiritual warrior and engaging in depossession-type activities, some of my "gifts" diminished--such as being a healing presence, but that's another story.)
Also, one may take all sorts of trainings and get certifications and approach it that way. That works! However, I didn't do that. Things came "natural" for me, and all I needed to know was given me. I want to tell you a story about an individual I knew in the first half of the 1990s. He/She had purchased the healing practice of the founder of a type of energy healing, complete with textbooks. When he/she did healing energy sessions, he/she had his book open and went by the book. I turned down his/her offer of sessions several times. When I knew it was his/her time to learn, I agreed with conditions. He/She was to begin as the textbook instructed but then was to forget about it and place his/her hands wherever and however Spirit guided him/her. He/She couldn't believe the difference in the flow of energies! Much stronger! He/She learned a valuable lesson. It was demonstrated again when I sent a soul sister who was visiting from out of state to his/her office for a session. He/She told me later that he/she just mostly followed Spirit, and the energy coming through him/her was even stronger than it has been in my session. Blew him/her away!
We have discussed a few methods of discovering one's "gifts." Perhaps this info will be useful to readers.
