Someone shared a quote of Dante on Facebook recently. Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) is most famous for, "The Divine Comedy," which consists of "Inferno," "Purgatorio," and "Paradiso." Many Christians don't realize that the descriptions of "Hell" they have heard from uneducated preachers come from Dante's works--not from "The Holy Bible." I've known this, and I was under the impression that Dante's words were mostly "doom and gloom," so when I saw this quote (translated into modern English, of course), I was pleasantly surprised: "Divine love, unutterable and perfect, flows into a pure soul the way that light rushes into a transparent object. The more love that it finds, the more that it gives itself, so that, as we grow clear and open, the more complete the joy of loving is. And, the more souls who resonate together, the greater the intensity of their love, for, mirror-like, each soul reflects the other's." Beautiful, isn't it?
It just so happens that for several days before seeing these words of Dante I had been thinking about an article for this site about Divine love and how important it is to embody it at all times. I realize that Divine love is not one specific frequency but covers a range of frequencies so that one may feel it more evident at some times than other times. However, a focus on embodying Divine love 100% of the time is a worthy endeavor.
The paradox is that the embodying of Divine love can be a challenge for ones who are going through difficult times but it can also be the means of surviving difficult times. The scripture from "The Holy Bible" that says something like, "If thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light," comes to mind. In New Thought religions, taking one's mind off the problems/issues and focusing on Divine love is called "golden keying."
Words that stand out in this quote of Dante are, "as we grow more clear and open." You see, the more clear of contaminants one is, and the more free of interferences, the more readily one can embody Divine love. This is why knowing ourselves (through prayer and meditation and Divine communion) and taking responsibility for keeping ourselves as healthy as possible at all levels (including mentally, emotionally, etherically, and energetically) is so important.
As Dante said, Divine love "pours into a pure soul." Let's make purification of our body, mind, and spirit a priority. I like to ask Divine, "Create in me a pure heart and renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10). Some times, I find myself barely feeling the presence of Divine love and need to spend some time clearing myself and shifting frequencies. Other times, I feel my heart and chest so full of Divine love that I feel blissful and want to sit and hug a pillow. I want to feel that blissful Divine love 100% of the time. How about you?
