Saw
an article on Facebook (which I shared) titled, “San Francisco Schools
Transformed by the Power of Meditation.”
Turns out that in the four middle schools in low-income areas where two
fifteen-minute quiet times with closed eyes are part of the “curriculum,”
suspensions have decreased noticeably, and there have been other benefits.
Just
closing the eyes and breathing slowly and deeply (with full trunk of body) for
even five minutes is so beneficial, but fifteen is even better. The schools are
missing something if they aren't instructing the kids to breathe slowly and
deeply using the trunk of the body. Over the years of my ministry, I've had to
coach so many people who were breathing shallowly before they could relax
sufficiently before healing sessions of various types. A good way to check is
to watch people's shoulders when they take a deep breath. I've seen them go up
several inches. It's the chest and belly that need to expand.
Practice,
practice, practice. We have many breath
