There are many ways to relax one's self. Some methods can be used with other methods. For example, one can play music designed for relaxation while using breath techniques, and there are also places to touch on the body that facilitate relaxation. We have some relaxation techniques in document form we share with those who support this ministry. We will provide some tips for deep relaxation and reprogramming here.
Begin to relax yourself by taking some slow, deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth. Pause for a count of four to seven (whichever works for you) between inhalations and exhalations. Place one hand on your abdomen and notice how your abdomen increases in size (swells up) when you inhale and goes down during your exhalation. (If it doesn't, then you have to learn how to breathe correctly before you can learn to place yourself in a deep state of relaxation. We have processes in document form that give instructions on how to do so.) After three deep breaths, you can close your mouth and exhale through the nose if you sense you are beginning to relax already. Just three breaths may work for you if you're a "good breather." Others will need more breaths. Witness your breathing, follow your breathing. Only you can decide when you are ready to instruct yourself silently.
With self-talk, you address your own selves (soul aspects and personalities as well as body) as "you." Some people have been known to make relaxation recordings for themselves; however, we suggest you NOT do so because flexibility is important. You will probably find different words issuing from your higher selves each time you practice. It's important to leave spaces for these. Detailed planning with a self-created relaxation recording doesn't allow for that. Also, because you're continuing with the established rhythm of your breathing, it is helpful that you speak to yourself as much in rhythm with your breathing as possible. Obviously, this cannot be a rigid rule.
Here's a sample of words to use when relaxing yourself (not necessarily in the order presented, and it's okay to leave some space for just witnessing your breathing): "Peace, be still. Peace, be still. Begin to wind down now, to let go, to release all tension from your body and your mind. Quiet mind, quiet mind. Peace, be still. Peace, be still. With every breath you take you am becoming more and more relaxed, more and more relaxed. More and more relaxed. At ease, at ease. The tensions are beginning to drain now from your body and your mind. Quiet mind, quiet mind. Your muscles are relaxing, unwinding, and letting go. Relax, at ease. Releasing now, relaxing now, letting go now. At ease, at ease. Peace, be still. Peace, be still. "
Three key phrases for reprogramming are (and fill in the blanks): "You are beginning to _____." "You are becoming _____." "You have every reason to expect _____." Some people suggest, "I have _____." The only problem with that is your subconscious knows the truth and will have a big laugh at your expense. You have to be real, people! If you tend to be more depressed and negative than the average person, you could tell yourself, "You are beginning to feel more joy in living--now." "You are becoming more positive with every passing day--now." You get the idea! Here are some more words you can use: "You have every reason to expect that your life will begin to improve--now." "You can choose to feel better, choosing to feel good--now." "You are becoming healthier and stronger with every passing day--now." "You have every reason to expect blessings and miracles--now." On and on it goes! If the words that pop into your mind seem to come from ego, don't judge them and just speak them to yourself. They are obviously just what you need. Besides, at this level of existence, a little ego is necessary for survival. You might write down some ideas before your session, but please don't stick to a program or open your eyes to look at your notes. Wait to receive the words while witnessing your breathing. And be real. If these suggestions are too far beyond your reality, create some instructions to yourself that are closer.
