Recently, a member of a Facebook asked a question of group
membership: “Has anyone ever woken up
with unexplained bruises? I have a friend who gets bruises in his sleep and he
asked me if it could be something that's happening in the astral.”
My response: What
happens to the etheric body (level/layer closest to the physical) usually shows
up on the physical body and often soon. I suspect that is where whatever is
happening originates. I have seen
people's etheric double on another plane of existence being worked on for
healing purposes by my Angel-Light Team--sometimes in a different position than
the physical body which is in the room with me during a session. However, I'm
also aware that there are beings with negative intent or service-to-self intent
whose actions on the etheric level are not gentle and cause bruises, scratches,
strange marks, etc.
In the spirit of offering a variety of information from more
than source and not just my own reality, I found some information on the etheric double to share. First, www . encyclopedia . com: The term double is used because the etheric double is a replica of the
denser physical body. The sense organs of the etheric double are the chakras, and it is through the chakras that
the physical body is supplied with the vitality necessary for its existence and
its well-being during life. The etheric
double thus plays the part of a conductor, and a bridge between the
physical and astral bodies, for without it humans could have no communications
with the astral world and hence neither thoughts nor feelings.
Next, from www . worldpranichealing . com: Our etheric body [aka
etheric double] is a bioplasmic and
luminous in nature and surrounds the physical body while interpenetrating it.
Clairvoyants are gifted with sight beyond what our physical eyes can see and
are able to view this etheric double which actually appears to have two hands,
two legs, two eyes, so on and so forth just like our physical bodies. […] The
etheric body is thus a living aura or energy body that is constituted of subtle
matter that is invisible to the naked eye. […]
It is through the etheric body that prana or life energy can be absorbed
into and distributed through the physical body. The etheric body thus serves as
a channel for life energy to flow into the visible physical body we possess and
are so attached to.

Linga sarira is a Sanskrit
term for the invisible [etheric] double of the human body, the etheric
body or etheric double. It is one of
the seven principles of the human being, according to Theosophical philosophy. Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Anthroposophy,
often referred to the etheric body (Ätherleib
or "Life Body") in association with the etheric formative forces and
the evolution of man and the cosmos. […]
Steiner considered the etheric reality or life principle as quite
distinct from the physical material reality, being intermediate between the
physical world and the astral or soul world. The etheric body [aka etheric double] can be characterised as
the life force also present in the plant kingdom. It maintains the physical body's
form until death. At that time, it separates from the physical body and the
physical reverts to natural disintegration.
According to Max Heindel's Rosicrucian writings, the etheric body [aka etheric double] […] is an exact
counterpart of our physical body, molecule for molecule, and organ for organ,
but it is of the opposite polarity. It is slightly larger, extending about one
and one-half inches beyond the periphery of the physical body.
I found several sources that shared Barbara Brennan’s
information, which tends to express my reality on the human energy field (and Barbara’s
books have been in my personal library for about twenty years). Here’s some info on the etheric body (aka etheric double): The first auric layer is the etheric body (aka
etheric double) associated with
physical aspects and awareness of the material body. It is on the next higher
vibrational level to the physical body which has the lowest vibrational level.
It bridges the connection of the material body to the higher bodies. The form of
the etheric body (aka etheric double)
is shaped and anchored to the physical matter of the material body. The etheric
body (aka etheric double) extends about
two inches outside the physical body. The etheric body (aka etheric double) is invisible to most
people, but some people can see it as a faint grayish-white color outlining the
physical body.
A few sources refer to the etheric body and the astral body
as the same, and I (and others) don’t agree with that. Here are a some words that Barbara Brennan
uses to describe the astral body, which is the fourth auric layer: It is called the bridge between the denser or
lower vibrations of the physical plane and the finer or higher vibrations of
the spiritual planes. It is the layer in which all energy must pass through
when going from one world to the other. It extends about one foot beyond the
body.

experience something of what the astral world is like, but all too often our
recollection of it is vague and uncertain. However, it is possible to become
fully conscious in the Astral World–usually during sleep–and to experience it
as a real, solid reality, just as we do the Physical World.
From www. Energyhealinginstitute.org: Just like the Etheric body [aka etheric double] has chakras and an
aura, so does the Astral body. Luckily, the chakra system of the Astral body is
not nearly as complex as that of the Etheric body [aka etheric double].
I enjoy reading of the experiences of others and found this
and other information at www . astralvoyage . com interesting: The etheric body [aka etheric double] can leave the physical, but when it does, I don't
think it goes any great distance. I think its role is a "life energy"
body. When the body goes to sleep, the etheric expands, the chakras open, and
we receive energy and restore our depleted supply. This is why it is also
referred to as the vitality sheath or health body. When I'm tired and drained,
I can lay down for half an hour, enter a trance like state and wake up feeling
totally refreshed. This is not the projection of the astral body, but a
charging of the etheric. If the etheric projected a great deal, our bodies
would feel drained, not refreshed, upon return. When I astral project, my
etheric is doing its job of replenishing my body, and when I come back, I am
refreshed. The two are independent. When
people experience "duality" aka mind splitting (where the
consciousness resides at two locations) I believe one part of the consciousness
is in the etheric and another one is in the astral. There are also a lot of discrepancies on the
silver cord. I personally have never seen this cord (but I haven't really
looked for it either). Is has been suggested that the cord is related to
etheric projection, not astral. If the cord was associated with just astral
projection, then we would see it every time we astrally projected. I remember once leaving my body and out of
curiosity I looked back towards my physical body. I saw a body, but it was in a
totally different position than my physical! It was the etheric body that I was
seeing. In the astral, we see the astral counterparts of the physical, but I think
we can also see our etheric shell (this explains why I saw the etheric body
[aka etheric double], and not the
physical). […] Both our physical and etheric bodies [aka etheric doubles] are magnetic in nature
and influence the pull of the astral. When
objects are moved, I think it is more from the influence of the etheric body [aka
etheric double], rather than the
astral […] It [the astral body] cannot
affect physical objects because they do not share the same vibrations. The
astral body can transcend time and space. There is a feeling of separation when
consciously projecting from the body. Rushing, vibrating, roaring, crackling
and popping (to name a few). When in the astral, our filter is removed and we
are able to see, hear and feel more.
Just a little more information, and I’ll stop writing. The Barbara Brennan School of Healing shares
Barbara’s words about the etheric template body, including: I call the fifth layer of the aura the
etheric template because it contains all the forms that exist on the physical
plane in a blueprint or template form. That is, it looks rather like the
negative of a photograph. It is the template form for the etheric layer, which
as was already stated is the template form for the physical body. The etheric
layer of the energy field derives its structure from the etheric template
layer. It is the blueprint or the perfect form for the etheric layer to take.
It extends from about one and one half to two feet from the body. In disease,
when the etheric layer becomes disfigured, etheric template work is needed to
provide the support for the etheric layer in its original template form. […] Thus,
the etheric template level of the aura creates an empty or negative space in
which the first or etheric level of the aura can exist. The etheric template is
the template for the etheric body, which then forms the grid structure
(structured energy field) upon which the physical body grows. Thus, the etheric
template level of the universal energy field contains all the shapes and forms
that exist on the physical plane, except on the template level. These forms
exist in negative space, creating an empty space in which the etheric grid
structure grows and upon which all physical manifestation exists.
In case you haven’t realized it already, I do recommend the
publications and trainings of Barbara Brennan (although I haven’t been trained
by Barbara or anyone else).
